Tutoring, Mentoring, and Beyond

The Department of Computer Science employs students to serve a variety of learning support roles. These roles include
  • Class Mentor. Class mentors are associated with a particular class, attend the class, help students during evening office hours, and, in some cases, offer evening mentoring sessions.
  • General Tutor. General tutors provide homework (and other) assistance for a variety of classes (typically 151 and 161, sometimes 105 and 207) during evening office hours. General tutors may also provide support in resolving basic Linux problems.
  • Individual Tutor. Individual tutors work with individual students or small groups of students, typically meeting for an hour or two per week.
  • Grader. Graders grade homework and labs.
  • Lab Assistant. Lab assistants help in laboratory sessions. (Many faculty are transitioning from lab assistants to class mentors.)
